Viveros Hernandorena <\/strong>begins a new winter season with an exceptionally broad and well-balanced stock, ready to meet the high demand for professional plantations in Spain and international markets. The company offers a very complete range of fruit trees, both bare-root and potted. This availability is the result of strategic planning. \u201cWe have been working for years to ensure a wide, well-organized stock adapted to the real needs of growers. Our goal is to guarantee immediate availability at a key moment of the year, even when weather conditions create challenges,\u201d explains Rosa Hernandorena, the company\u2019s Commercial Director.<\/p>\n

Winter season: the key moment for bare-root plants<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Between January and February, nearly 70% of the company\u2019s annual sales take place, making the winter season a decisive period. This year, persistent rainfall is slowing both field lifting and planting at destination, but Viveros Hernandorena is maintaining supply thanks to its storage and preparation capacity in cold chambers, which keep plants in optimal condition until delivery.<\/p>\n

The current stock includes stone fruit (apricot, peach, nectarine and flat peach, in their main varieties and rootstocks), almond trees (multiple combinations), plum trees (with expanded rootstock production), pomegranate and fig trees, kiwifruit (Hayward and Tomuri varieties), pear trees and loquat, as well as persimmon, where the nursery is an international reference.<\/p>\n

The company expects to close the winter season with more than 400,000 bare-root plants, of which over 200,000 are persimmon. Rosa Hernandorena highlights that this broad catalogue is one of the nursery\u2019s strengths: \u201cThe diversity of our stock is essential. We offer not only volume, but also variety and quality. This allows us to adapt to the needs of each production area and each grower.\u201d<\/p>\n

Persimmon: a crop in full recovery and with strong upward momentum<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Persimmon is experiencing a clear resurgence. After several years marked by pest issues and stagnant prices, the sector has regained confidence. Cooperatives, private companies and professional growers are driving new plantings and replantings, encouraged by improved prices and better pest control. Added to this is the ageing of many orchards, which has accelerated the need for renewal\u2014and with it, the pursuit of better quality and higher yields per hectare.<\/p>\n

Viveros Hernandorena has been anticipating this scenario for years, progressively increasing the production of rootstocks and the availability of commercial plants. \u201cPersimmon is entering a new growth cycle. Professional growers are investing in it again because today they have more tools, more knowledge and better results. We have been preparing for this moment for years,\u201d says the Commercial Director.<\/p>\n

Ozone-equipped cold chambers: a value-added feature that makes the difference<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Viveros Hernandorena\u2019s cold storage chambers, equipped with ozone injection, have become a key asset for ensuring plant quality and health. Thanks to current technology, these chambers maintain plants in an optimal state of dormancy, ensure complete disinfection\u2014both external and internal\u2014and improve root preparation before planting. This fully natural, non-chemical treatment acts as a \u201cpre-shipment\u201d process that enhances plant performance in the field.<\/p>\n

Each year, more customers specifically request that their plants go through the chamber, even when they could plant immediately. \u201cThe chambers are no longer just a logistical resource; they are a quality tool. Growers know it and value it. That\u2019s why we expect that in the coming years, 100% of our plants will go through the chamber before leaving the nursery,\u201d states Rosa Hernandorena.<\/p>\n

Presence at FIMA<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Once again, Viveros Hernandorena will participate in FIMA 2026, one of the most important agricultural fairs in Spain. The objective is to strengthen its commercial presence in Catalonia and Arag\u00f3n, two regions with significant fruit production\u2014especially stone fruit, almond and quince\u2014where the company already has well-established products.<\/p>\n
